What is Insulating Glass?
Insulating Glass (IG) units are hermetically sealed combinations of two or more lites of glass separated by a dry airspace. IG units improve thermal performance, significantly reducing heating and air conditioning costs. IG units also reduce interior condensation in cold climates.
Insulated glass is custom manufactured to fit your window and is a cost effective repair.
We will gladly make these repairs at your location or if you prefer, you can bring your sash to our shop for repairs.
“Failed”…what does this mean?
An insulated glass unit has four basic components…the glass, the spacer, the sealant and the dead airspace. When the sealants fail, moisture is allowed to enter the dead airspace. Depending upon the glass temperatures and the ambient humidity, this moisture will appear as condensation on the interior surfaces of the glass. Over time, this condensation will lead to mineral deposits and discoloration inside the unit. Typical life expectancy for an insulated unit is between five and ten year depending greatly on the window design.
